I want to become a yoga teacher and have been doing research into the best way to do and the best place to do it. I’m going to share with you guys what I have found out. Hopefully by 2018 I will be a fully qualified yoga teacher and following my dream of teaching yoga for a living.
First things first is the course needs to be affiliated to the Yoga Alliance. This means when you complete the course you can teach yoga anywhere in the world. The first course I need to do is the RYS 200 course which is 200 hours and will enable me to teach yoga. These courses can be done over a long period of time or as an intensive one month course.
At first I was not sure which direction to go in, spend longer doing the course and give myself more time to practice in between lessons or go for the intensive month and then throw myself into it. So I started looking into costs and this where my mind got made. If I stay at home and do it either as a month long course or spread out over six months or a year the price is the same, between $4000-$6000 depending on the school.
My next thought was looking if courses were better and cheaper in other countries and to my pleasant surprise I found the same Yoga Alliance standard courses were being taught all over the world by teachers from all over the world. Even more pleasantly surprising is in some of the amazing destinations such as Thailand, Bali and Goa the price was a lot cheaper. So what’s the price of a ticket to one of these places. I add up the flights and the course cost it’s about the same cost and some these courses abroad also include accommodation and food.
Ok I’ve made up my mind I’m going to do this in an amazing destination, get away from my boring job and day to day routine and have the experience of a lifetime that everyone deserves. My choice is to go for one of the companies that includes accommodation and food, I want the convenience of having everything organized for me. Who needs surprises when you have travelled round the world to embark on a new life.
I’ve decided on Thailand and I’m booking myself onto a course in 2018. After searching extensively and talking to all the different companies I have decided to go with Live Yoga in Koh Tao. Seems like the ideal setting and the Yoga House looks like an amazing place to practice and study yoga. The accommodation looks great and I have booked a shared room in one of the luxury studios. Being there for close to a month I want comfort and I want the convenience of having my own kitchen space.
The communications via email with the Live Yoga team were very informative and professional. I looked into the teacher’s backgrounds and they have worked for some of the best Yoga Schools, so it was an easy decision to make. Made me feel inspired enough to write this blog and who knows might even meet some of you guys on the course.
